One Piece of Advice by Kimberly - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

If I could give one piece of advice to younger students, it would be to be careful of senioritis throughout all four years. I didn’t think I needed to focus that much on my classes my freshman and sophomore year. It ended up really messing up my grade point average and it made getting into my dream college about ten times harder than it needed to be.
Freshman year I decided that I didn’t need to focus on my classes because I didn’t think it would make a difference. I thought that since I already had a 3.95 GPA, that I would be fine. Unfortunately, I was very wrong and I didn’t realize it until half way through my junior year. At that point my GPA had dropped to a 3.1. I tried my hardest to raise my grades and GPA, and although my grades did rise, I wasn’t so lucky with my GPA. I’ll most likely be graduating with a 3.1 GPA still.
I’m grateful to say that I did successfully make it into Purdue University, which is where I wanted to go, but it wasn’t an easy task. It was a lot of waiting and a lot of nerve wracking. I had a lot of stress while finishing my junior year and it didn’t make entering my senior year much easier. Although this year has been easier, thanks to the ease of my scheduling, academically, it has still been a challenge. I’ve been trying to finish with both technical and academic honors, which includes needing at least two AP class credits.
So again, the advice I give is to stay focused in class and to stay on top of your school work. Don’t let senioritis kick in!
