Leadership Skills Intertwined with College Success by Kierra - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
During the four long years of high school, students are supposed to be taught a couple preparatory elements. Leadership, time management, communication, and collaboration. Above all the skills listed, leadership is the most necessary for college success and overall future success.
Leaders have to be able to team build, have a vision, relate to their followers and set and work towards goals. In college we will have to work together and brainstorm to get great ideas and of course pass the group assignment due the next class hour. The group that usually does poorly on the project tends to always be the group of followers with no leader. Followers are essentially needed because not everyone can be the head of a corporation or even a class but the tag along that does nothing until someone else steps up, is not the position you would like to be in if you would like to make something out of yourself while at a university. If there is no leader in the group making sure every part of the assignment is getting done correctly and also doing their part then then it will lead to a catastrophe of a grade.
College success depends on the students themselves .If they are able to assume the leadership position and put in effort to get the job done then there is a higher chance of them advancing on to the next level of schooling and life. There will be times when it may not be necessary for you to be the leader but in college and within the workforce having that ability and knowledge to will get you far.
Most people view college as a milestone leading to their dream careers in hope that they will be the leaders. The sole purpose of college is to help you elaborate on those effective leadership skills so that when you earn your degree you will be able to apply them to whatever career path you choose. Leadership, time management, communication and collaboration skills to have wherever life takes you .But Whether it's in a hospital, a classroom, business or a courtroom someone will have to take on leadership skills to get to the end point or simply college success.
