One Tip to Survive High School by Kiana - March 2019 Scholarship Essay

One piece of advice that I would give incoming high school freshmen is to get involved and stay involved. Being involved in high school is a great way to network, meet new people, gain important life skills and also enjoy your high school years. I regret not taking advantage of all the opportunities and fun events that were happening during my high school years. However, freshman year I was a bit involved, but I wish I had continued to stay involved throughout my other years as a sophomore junior and senior. If I could go back, there’s so many different clubs and organizations that I’d join. By getting involved in high school you not only make great memories, but you also create strong friendships and bonds with teachers and other students. I played tennis for three years at my high school and that was an amazing experience. Some of my favorite high school memories were created while being on the tennis team. I was also part of the health Academy for four years and the amount of memories, friendship and the bond that I’ve created with the students and teachers are ones that I will cherish forever. By getting involved you also open doors for other opportunities that can help you in life. Being in the health Academy I am now CPR certified, CMAA certified and OSHA certified. When I graduate high school, I’ll also be EKG certified, PCPT certified and possibly even certified in phlebotomy. The skills I’ve learned by being a part of the health academy are going to help me get a career in the health care field. By also getting involved in your school you can earn volunteer hours which are also able to be put onto your resume which will help you get a job in the real world after you graduate high school. By being involved in school activities, sports and organizations you will also learn how to effectively mange your time which is an important life skill to have. Trust me, knowing how to effectively manage your time will save your life. If it wasn’t for the few clubs and activities that I was involved in, I most likely wouldn’t be the expert in time management that I am now. Once you start high school, I encourage you to get involved and not to forget to have fun because your four years in high school will fly by.
