Meriam-Webster dictionary defines leadership as the capacity to guide the actions of a person or group. To me, leadership means being a good example for others and listening so you can make informed decisions. It is also very important for a leader to be trustworthy. When you can trust someone, you know they have your back. I think people are more willing to follow someone they trust versus someone they do not. Last, a leader should say what they mean and do what they say. Honesty is very important as in links back to the need for trust.
A person in my life who has always been a good leader is my father. As the leader of our family, he has always been a good example not just for our immediate family but also for some of our extended family. He has guided his children in the right direction and tries to mentor other family members who don’t have a father in their life. He listens to us to understand our point of view and helps us understand his. I can trust that he always has my best interest at heart and know he is always looking out for me. I am blessed to have him as my father and hope to one day be able to lead my family the way he has led his.
