Base Ball Dream by Khadijah - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

Baseball is a game that takes a lot of hard work and determination to play. That Is the main reason I like to play it. I started playing baseball when I was five years old, and I have loved it ever since. While playing baseball I have accomplished many goals, and learned a lot of things that will help me along later in life. I plan to play throughout college, and even longer if at all possible. Because of the game of baseball I have learned about Ted Williams, and admire all that he has done.
The first thing I would ask Ted Williams about is how the game has changed since he last played it. Sometimes, I wonder whether it would have been easier if I would have been able to play fifty years ago. I would ask him how the pitching has changed, and if it would be any harder to hit a pitcher now compared to 1960. I always hear about Ted Williams hitting .400, and how hard it is to do, but I wonder if it was as big of a thing to baseball players’ back in the early 1940’s. I’d like to know what his impression on baseball is to day, and what he thinks about how the players carry themselves in baseball now. I believe that players have become a lot more arrogant in the modern era, and don’t have a love for the game as players did fifty years ago.
I would also like to know if he has any advice at all about the game of baseball. Ted Williams is one of the greatest hitters of all time and the advice that he could give would be of great significance to me. I would like to ask him what I could do to make myself better on the field.
I would also be interesting in how being away from baseball in the war effected his ability to play when he returned. In my mind it would be hard to just drop something like that, and then just pick back up where I left off. Ted Williams did it twice, which shows the kind of baseball player he was
