The Garden of Pre-Nursing by Kezia - December 2023 Scholarship Essay
During the covid 19 frenzy there was one certain force line putting their life at an expense almost everyday as the year went by, the medical field is a strong work line which stuck their head out when it came to “do no harm”. These countless people consistently put other individuals and families forward before their own to make sure they were constantly doing good with their ability and knowledge to help others.Similar to nurturing soil in a garden there comes the compassion for healers who will bloom as dedicated caregivers in societies orchard of health. The pre nursing curriculum serves as the fertile ground where seeds of knowledge, empathy and resilience are sown, preparing aspiring caregivers to bloom and thrive.
Much like rigorous gardeners, pre- nursing students take part in meticulous cultivation of their skills and understanding. They immerse themselves in challenging curriculums which encompass not only scientific rigor, but also the delicate art or empathy and human connection. Through coursework, clinical experiences, and interactive learning, these students nurture the seeds of their potential, acquiring the necessary tools to navigate the complex landscape of healthcare with precision and care. They must carefully cultivate their body of knowledge along the same lines as one would carefully nurture a garden. They develop their skills like gardeners who carefully take care of each plant, understanding its unique needs for growth and flourishing. They absorb the complexities of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and various healthcare practices. Similar to how a well-kept garden produces an abundance of produce, these students carefully tend to their knowledge, readying themselves to reap the benefits of their labor in the form of skillful nursing and sympathetic assistance. Beyond learning, the pre-nursing major promotes various relationships. These students commit themselves to growing empathy and emotional resilience, comparable to gardeners tending to the soil. They engage in a range of clinical contexts, observing a range of human experiences, from happy times to deeply vulnerable and painful times. Through these encounters, they learn to cultivate empathy, understanding, and the ability to provide compassionate care. Many heavily nourished gardens require consistent attention after every certain set back such as weather altercations, the journey through the pre nursing major demands, unwavering dedication and persistence which has many opportunities to bring you down and affect your overall self esteem.Yet, like resilient plants that withstand adverse conditions, these future nurses develop the resilience and adaptability required to thrive in the demanding and dynamic landscape of healthcare. As these would-be caregivers mature and mature, they turn into the essential caregivers that society needs. Their commitment and nurturing nature are what keep the orchard healthy and guarantee the welfare of a great number of people. Similar to blossoming flowers in a garden, their contributions offer communities and patients alike consolation, healing, and hope; their invaluable service and unwavering dedication enrich the world. The pre-nursing major's analogy of a nurturing garden to a transformative journey offers a compelling perspective on these students' journey of transformation. By virtue of their commitment, acquisition of knowledge, and development of empathy, they become the kind healers who are essential.
