Why I Want to Go to College by Kevin - November 2023 Scholarship Essay
When I was first looking for a career I was really lost on what I wanted to do and what my true passion would be. Everyone around me had big plans, colleges they already wanted to go to due to their parents being alumni or they just had that inspiration since a young age. I was truly lost, I was truly scared. One of the things that I knew that drove me was helping people, whether they were fortunate or not, whether they deserved it or not, good or evil. People deserve to receive any sort of help medically whether it’s physical or mental. The other thing that I knew about myself was that I was into sports, specifically basketball. I was never a good player but it always intrigued me how athletes are able to move their bodies how they do and how they have such large stamina for a sport that requires a lot of movement. The last thing was when I normally do find something i'm passionate about in life I devote my time to that specific thing to be the best at it and to still learn from it.
My plan of occupation and goal is to be a sports medicine physician for the NBA. I am going to attain this goal by attending Cleveland State University where they offer an internship there to work with the athletes of the Cleveland Cavaliers and alongside get my degree there as well. My biggest drive in general is my parents. They moved from Puerto Rico to the United States to show me a better life here. My dad has been in the military for roughly 25 years and my mom is a technician in a nursing home. I want to show my mom that it is okay to take the physical therapist test. She is fluent in English but it’s still broken for her and she struggled taking the test for a better job and to find the time to study. I’m hoping I can hopefully motivate her how she motivates me to take the test so she can get better pay and live the better life she deserves. I want to be able to do the job my mother was to scared to do and show her it is okay to take risks if you have a goal you want to achieve. I want to be able to be very wealthy to pay back for everything my mom and my dad has provided for me, they are one of my biggest drives.
My career drive is that I want to learn how to help people medically. To be able to save someone in a certain circumstance. In this case help athletes with their injury and/or help them prevent injury so they can live a healthy life and continue their job to help provide for their family, their team, the crowd, let alone their selves. One thing that I stand on is that people should strive to be healthy, no matter the case. Everyone should be healthy, happy and live for as long as they can. I want to be there, I want to be able to help people during their dire in needs to show them that doctors are there to help and here to stay no matter the conditions I will be there for the world when they need it the most. In conclusion I want to go to college to learn how to help people and help provide for my parents how they did for me.
