My goal in life is to become a high school teacher. I came to America with this dream, however financially I was not stable. Like many immigrants in this country, putting food on the table was the most important thing with whatever education, experiences and will power I had at that time. This dented my dreams or rather slowed me down for a while. The idea to become a teacher never got any lesser. I was able to balance work, school, family and many other activities just to stay in college. I needed help and help came in form of the goddess of scholarship. I had to believe that better days are ahead of me.
I started my journey at La Guardia Community College and was on the dean’s list the very first semester. I never knew that a recognition of hard work and perseverance. I did get few inhouse scholarships that which helped to pay for my books, travel allowances and much more.
I am now in the same predicament with the same financial torture I once faced. This scholarship will give me the needed money to focus more on my studies rather than work and late nights working shifts. Rather than to use my extra time to relax or entertain, I was employed at the college to tutor students in math. This made more bolden and willing to pursue a winning career. Tutoring my peers was unimaginable task for me, however one of my professors recommended me to this path. I also tutored many high school students whoa re now in college and making a better future for themselves.
