Trust the process by Keshawna - July 2025 Scholarship Essay
If I could give one piece of advice to my past self, it would be to stop worrying so much about knowing exactly what I wanted to study or even if I wanted to go to college at all. For a long time, I felt lost and unsure about my future. I didn’t have a clear plan, and that made me scared to take the next step. I thought I had to have everything figured out before I even applied or enrolled, but that wasn’t true. I would tell my past self that it’s okay not to have all the answers right away. College is a place to explore, learn, and discover what matters to you. You don’t have to pick a major on day one or know your whole career path. What matters is showing up, being open to new experiences, and trusting that the journey will guide you. I also would remind myself that it’s normal to feel uncertain and that lots of people don’t have it all figured out right away. The important thing is to take the chance and keep moving forward. Even if you change your mind along the way, every step is a part of learning who you are and what you want. Looking back, I see that the fear of not knowing held me back more than anything else. If I could speak to my younger self, I would tell her to be patient, stay curious, and believe that the right path will come with time.
