My Life by Keoni - July 2016 Scholarship Essay

It all started in 5th grade. I was picked on constantly in 5th. It probably lasted till my 8th grade year. I felt helpless. I felt like the world was against me. I was tempted just to end it all. But I guess one of my teachers saw that I was upset, and I got some helpful advice that saved me life. I can't remember who the teacher was, but she was my 6th grade math teacher. This is how the situation started. I was sitting in the back of the classroom in tears. I was crying hard. The problem happened at home. I can't remember exactly what happened, but I know it had something to do with my mom. It always had something to do with my mom. I remember that I could always tell her anything. I could tell that genuinely cared about me. Luckily, I was 2nd run when it came to me getting on the bus after school, so I didn't really have to rush to go to my bus. After school, I would always go to her room first. She noticed that I was sad, and she asked me why. I told her my situation, and she just grabbed me. I was confused on what was going on. I never had someone outside of the family care about this much, and didn't know how to react. That's when she let me go and looked at me.
“Life is hard. It will never get any easier; even when your an adult. But make life the way you want it. Don't stand her and be sad or mope; but happy that you woke up this morning in your bed. Your a bright young girl. Make life the way you want it.”
I really didn't know how I was supposed to feel. Coming from my math teacher felt a little weird. But that advice was probably the best advice that I ever heard. Make life the way I wanted it. When I younger, all I ever wanted to do was make my mom happy and/or proud of me. However, I realized that no matter what I did; she would never feel that. I'm going to do what my 6th grade math teacher told me do, and make life the way I wanted it to be.
