My Inspiration by Kenneth - September 2013 Scholarship Essay

I would have to say that my Mother was my role model and inspiration. She raised myself and 3 brothers as a single parent. She worked full time, yet made the effort to earn a certificate in business administration, So that she could better provide for us boys. It was from her that I learned the value of a good education. And I have strived for it my entire life. Although I am in my mid-fifties, I feel it is never too late to learn new skills. I practiced this while working in industrial work, never being satisified to remain on the bottom rung. I worked to learn jobs that were beyond my experience, and advance within the company. I believe you can say I learned a work ethic from my mother also; that you will not achieve your goals by just collecting a paycheck, you have to set a goal and work to achieve it.This is why I returned to college. I have been disabled these last 10 years, and I felt my life slipping away. I felt it was time to take my destiny back into my hands, and make an effort to build a new life for myself and my wife.
