Live Your Own Life by Kennedy - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

If my school gave us the opportunity to have a senior quote, my quote would be "live your life how you want to live it". I would chose this quote, because everyone in my family believes they have a say on how I should live my life. I deeply appreciate their input, and love how much they care for me and want me to succeed. However, I have noticed their input is starting to sway where I want to go to college, and what I want to do for a living.
I firmly believe college will give me a chance to mess up in life, but it also will teach me how to live my life independently. If I could live my life how my family wanted me to, I would never get the opportunity to mess up and learn from my mistakes. Making mistakes is a monumental part of growing up, and becoming a responsible and functioning adult. I can not be able to make mistakes if I keep letting my family sway my opinions on my life.
This quote gives me the strength to overcome what my family says, even if they meant to protect me. I am starting to pursue the career I want to do, and not the career my family wants me to do. I also plan on going to my dream school, even though my family wants me to stay close to home. I know I will truly miss seeing my family each and every day, but I know the outcome of following my own path will have tremendous benefits in my future. I believe in making my own path in my life, and doing what I enjoy. I know my family will always be proud of what I will become in life, despite not doing what they say.
