What Does A Senior Quote Say About You? by Kennedy - November 2018 Scholarship Essay

A quote is something that someone says that made a difference in someone else's life. When you look up a quote what is it normally for? Is it for a report, motivation, joy, or something smart to write fancy on a piece of paper and then post on social media? A fun part about senior year is choosing what your senior quote is going to be. Are you going to be someone who brings inspiration, sarcasm, laughter, or an eye roll?
When I think about a senior quote I think of a quote that got me through. A quote that inspired me, maybe not others, but a quote that when I wanted to give up I got back up on my feet and kept going. My senior quote is "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right." This is one quote I have been told by my parents my whole life and that's a big reason I would choose it to be my senior quote.
The best way to explain is why this quote describes me is I'm an athlete. I've played some type of sport my whole life. From soccer to basketball to track and volleyball. I've always loved going out and competing. In sports, also in life, you are faced with hard challenges. Challenges you may have to make fairly quickly. For example in basketball imagine you have five seconds on the clock and you are down one point, who are you going to pass to? Should you run the play your coach told you to do even though it didn't work before? Should you shoot the ball yourself? Should you drive to the basket? Should you pass it to another teammate and put the game on their shoulders? All of these questions go through your mind in a blink of an eye and you have to decide which one to choose. If the one you chose wasn't the right one a lot of athletes go into, what I like to call, the "I suck" mentality. Athletes start thinking of how awful of a player they are and how they could have done better to help their team win.
Being anathlete I've gone through this phase a lot. Wondering what I did wrong, wondering how I could have done better, and even sometimes I want to give up and not go anymore. Then this quote pops in my head "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right." No matter what the outcome is if you believe in yourself you will achieve. In school this helps a lot. School is there to challenge you and at times you have teachers that really like to push you past your limits. In the end of the day if you believe you can do something then you can do it. You have to put the time in and do work but believing will make it so much easier to accomplish.
