Thankful for my experiences. by Kennedy - November 2016 Scholarship Essay

You see, College, before you, I didn't even know myself. I had no faith in my abilities, lacked confidence and had no idea just how much I was actually capable of achieving. I thought I had my entire life planned out, latching onto the first major that came to mind and failing to recognize that life doesn't always go as expected. Looking around myself, I saw future leaders and innovators with whom I never thought I could relate. Instead of believing that I was capable of becoming a leader myself, I saw myself as just another speck in a swarm of overachievers. I’m not going to lie and say that these insecurities disappeared as soon as I stepped foot on campus; I still struggle with them to this day. But, because of you, I’ve started to to realize that I am so much more than my reserved, high school self thought I was. When asked to anserw the question “ What part of a college experience will you be most thankful for, and why? I found myself having trouble just picking one experience. So I picked a few: One, For the Fun Times
Throughout these couple of years, I meet so many new people who came from all different types of backgrounds, and who will have even become some of my best friends. As I spent time with people who appreciate me, the qualities of even the simplest things like the late-night coffee runs, movie nights, study dates, and meeting up for dinner in the dining hall have turned into the greatest memories I will have when looking back on my college experiences.
Secondly, The Late-Night Library Runs There are some cases where people enjoy the experience of going to the library. This may be because people may find it easier to get work done at the library, or they may see their friends on the regular there. Although the library is a place where you are taking on difficult assignments, studying for tests, or completing twenty-page papers, I know I will look back and think how I spent my time there achieving my precious GPA.
Third, For the Opportunities There will be some experiences in college that may either be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, or an experience that I cherish, like being a part of a sport or organization that I was passionate about, studying abroad, or meeting some of my lifelong friends. Whether the opportunities are big or small, they gradually help you as you are figuring yourself out. Most of all For the Challenges, Of course with any fun experience, especially your college experience, there will be obstacles thrown in the way; break-ups, a falling out with a friend, trying to balance your time, or even taking on a rigorous course schedule. But luckily, depending on how you look at it, the tough obstacles that you face in your college career can benefit you later on as you enter the real world.
