Passion for Education means..... by Ken - July 2019 Scholarship Essay

I recently was displaced from my job due to corporate restructuring. Within the last six months, my manager taught me what I needed to improve upon. This experience made me realize the importance of furthering my education, doing what I love, and the big step I needed to take to improve myself in order to have a more successful career. Being admitted to Fordham’s Professional MBA program was the pivotal next step for me. My passion lies in financial analysis, accounting, and developing fluency in Italian as today’s global market is very competitive. My experience over the last four months, has shaped my personal and professional trajectory for years to come. The big lesson, I learned was to stand tall, take the ball, and power forward.
Passion for education to me means, being able to improve upon my weaknesses that will lead to my continued success. Being at the zenith of my career, I had no time to waste. Having recognized where I needed to improve, I set the goal of being accepted, reached my goal, and even surpassed it as I was honored with the Dean’s scholarship. Having demonstrated grit, discipline to reach my goals, and even to surpass throughout my career, made me pursue the MBA program in order to learn the theoretical and practical knowledge, I lacked. Adding to my qualities a formal education in the form of an MBA will help me in advance in my career.
I was to the school because of the reputation for excellence and mission to develop students into compassionate business leaders that inspire and empower positive global change. I appreciate the value of an education focused on compassionate leadership in a field more commonly considered to focus only upon corporate, and ultimately individual, self-interest. My passion for education also exists outside the classroom; being an instrumental advocate for racial disparities that exist between grammar and high school students, based on low test scores has made me realize new ways I plan to educate young leaders. The importance of creating impactful conversations, team building, and networking events, makes me truly appreciate the opportunity to obtain an MBA.
To reiterate, I would be honored to receive the Passion for Education scholarship as my passion for education is displayed in the classroom and through others in the form for career development and volunteering. Being an important member of society, the power to educate someone else less fortunate, and to be a role model is my passion for education. Having discovered my passion, I am ready for bigger and better things.
