There are many characteristics of a leader, but in my opinion there are five very important characteristics a person must possess in order to be a great leader and build, grow and inspire a team.
Honesty, integrity, accountability, enthusiastic, and effective communicator are my top five characteristics of great leadership. Honesty allows you to build trust in others, which in turn will inspire others to follow leadership. Upholding a great sense of integrity allows your team to see the moral values that you stand by and will inspire great moral and ethical values among the team. Being accountable, even when something goes wrong allows others to see your own imperfection, as well as the imperfections you are willing to accept, of your teammates, as your own in order to inspire growth in your team. Being enthusiastic allows the team to remain positive. A leader has to be able to propel the team forward, even when things are not great and most can't see the positive. Enthusiasm inspires the team to see the glass as half full rather than half empty. In my opinion, one of the most important leadership characteristics is to be able to effectively communicate wit others. The number one reason for conflict is communication. Communication involves not only speaking, but also listening. A great leader knows when to speak and when to listen and therefore posses effective communication.
In conclusion, anyone can be a leader.To be a great leader you must possess honesty, integrity, accountability, enthusiasm, and effective communication in order to build, grow, and inspire your team!
