President who Represents the American Dream by Kelly - October 2017 Scholarship Essay
The "American dream" has a different meaning for every person. To some it is the hope of equal opportunity to a better life and freedom, while others believe achieving the American Dream is nearly impossible. Even though to some people the “American Dream” might be only a fantasy, it is still an attainable idea and this idea has been accepted as possible by the majority of citizens in this country because the U.S. government actually execute the idea that people are judged by their achievements instead of their race or background.
Barack Obama is an American politician who served as the 44th President of the United States and he is the first African American to have served as president. Throughout history, African American had always been discriminated in which attacked the confidence in the existence of the American Dream. However, the U.S. government have work to the best of their abilities to prevent any discrimination and there are some perfect examples to prove their effort. From Jim Crow laws, segregation, and disenfranchisement to Civil Rights Act, Voting Rights Act, and the nation’s first African American president: these are just some of the few transformation from fantasy to realistic of the American Dream.
For some people the “American Dream” cannot be true, as there are multiple discriminations in this country, which make it impossible for everyone to have the same chance to succeed. However, the United States of America has a prime example of equal opportunity to success: Barack Obama, the president who represents the achievability of the American Dream. If I were ever to have a dinner with one U.S. president, he would be the one.
