Never Missing A Day by Kelly - March 2014 Scholarship Essay
Everyone wants to attend every party, arrive at every special event, attend every sport or summer event, and even go out with friends as much as they can. I’ve been able to do those things because I learned the value attendance, thanks to my experience of Perfect Attendance during my senior year in high school. Perfect Attendance was one of my greatest academic achievements in high school. It’s one of my greatest achievements because it taught me the value of attendance in a lot of aspects of life and perfect attendance seems to award students massively with benefits.
First of all, I've learned the value and the essence of attendance in other life necessities. Some people don’t really understand the value of attendance or may believe that missing one or two attendances is deemed OK. It’s not really OK. You may miss something in that particular attendance that may be very significant, beneficial, or just plain essential. Bad days will possibly happen as well for attendance, but you get up and you still go anyway because you need to assure that you pass that class, assure you get the finances to support your family, or even get informed as much as you can in those meetings etc.,. For example, I didn't like getting up for work at my Olive Gardens job but I did love to go to a Chicago Bears game. This year, the Chicago Bears were in the NFC Championship game and I wanted to attend. It only cost me two hundred and fifty dollars to come up with the finances for the ticket. A week and a half before the game, my boss had chewed me out for an error I made at my job. It had really angered me so the next day I would make up an excuse on why I couldn't come to work. I said I was sick when I really wasn't. I just didn't want to work because my boss had made me mad. The last day of pay checks before the game was three days prior. When I looked at my check, I noticed I had two hundred dollars. I was fifty dollars short of the NFC tickets. I took up the check with my boss, but my check was due to the day I had called saying I was sick. I couldn't go to the game. Life has ups and downs, but you still have to do what you need to do for something that you interpret is important.
Secondly, captivating attendance will more than likely bring benefits, not bad things. Lots of people use benefits or things they could get for free. All you have to do is show up. For example, me and my two friends Michael and Leslie go out almost every weekend to the Crab Bar because we enjoy it. It’s fun and not a lot of people get into clubs because they don’t have the finance. One weekend during the summer, Leslie was in a bad mood after issues at home so she decided she didn't want to go out. I tried convincing her that we’re just going to have a good time so she shouldn't worry about the bad times, but she really didn't feel like it. So Michael and I went. That very same night at the club, the hosted a five VIP give-away for people wanting to come back in the future. The VIP passes had two hundred dollar gift cards and free passes for who would come back to the Crab Bar the next two times. The passes would only be handed to the first five people in line so Michael and I raced to the line. We were the first two and got the passes. Leslie couldn't get the passes and we couldn't use it for her because she didn't show. There’s always something good for great attendance, and that includes always coming and coming on time.
So perfect attendance is one of my greatest academic achievements because it taught me the value of attendance in a lot of aspects of life and perfect attendance awards students with benefits only. It has made pretty good impact on me with the lessons that it taught me. Achieving perfect attendance that year in high school also got me three free passes to 6 Flags Great America.
