College: My Motivations by Keira - November 2023 Scholarship Essay
A deep love of learning, a desire to serve others, and a dedication to personal development are the driving forces behind the transforming experience that is pursuing a college degree. I believe that attending college will not only lead to opportunities, but it will also act as a medium for having a significant impact on my life and the lives of those around me. This belief is the foundation of my decision to pursue this academic adventure. Since my early years, I have had a sincere desire to study new things. My identity has always been deeply ingrained in the pursuit of information, and I enjoy learning new things and making sense of difficult ideas. From ancient civilization to the human body, information found in documentaries and the bookstore was my best friend. With its varied educational offerings and vibrant academic environment, college offers a perfect environment to delve into different subjects, pursue my passions, and develop a depth of knowledge that goes beyond the typical classroom.
My desire to serve people is what drives me to attend college, much more so than my own passion for studying. I made a deliberate choice to obtain a degree in diagnostic medical sonography in order to arm myself with the knowledge necessary to make a significant contribution to the field of healthcare. Through fast and accurate medical imaging, the discipline of diagnostic medical sonography has the potential to significantly improve people's lives. My goal in attending college is to gain the information and abilities required to actually improve other people's health and well-being.
Going to college and getting a degree is additionally motivated by the desire to honor my family. As entrepreneurs, my family has always valued hard work and devotion. Continuing my education is not only a personal goal for me but also a goal we share as a family. I am aware of the sacrifices my family has made on my behalf to help fund my education, and my graduation from college is proof of their faith in the ability of education to pave the way for success wasn’t misguided. My desire to academic performance is motivated by the feeling of pride I get from making my family proud.
In addition, I think that going to college will spur personal development and self-discovery. College's varied social and intellectual experiences will surely challenge my assumptions and eliminate stereotypes and promote self-reliance. I see college as an intensive experience that will expand my horizons, develop my critical thinking abilities, and inspire a lifetime passion of inquiry and exploration. It is more than just a means to an end. My drive goes beyond these practical factors, even if a college degree offers prospects for career progression and financial stability. Being a member of a community of learners and being around people who are committed to changing the world and have a passion for knowledge appeals to me. I view college as a multifaceted experience that includes social, intellectual, and personal aspects.
To sum up, the choice to attend college is the result of my passion for education, my desire to lend a hand to others, and my dedication to achieving my goals and those of my family. Choosing to pursue a degree in diagnostic medical sonography is more than just a professional move, it's a deliberate decision to partake in a life-changing experience that will mold my personality, extend my perspective, and provide me the tools I need to make a significant difference in other people's lives. As I begin this rewarding and enjoyable educational journey, I am excited to be a part of the lively community that is college.
