How My Mother has Changed Me For the Better by Keira - March 2023 Scholarship Essay
“My mommy is my hero”, is what I said when I was only six years old. During that time I was always in the safety of my mother’s love, unaware of what the future held. When I was six, the school was a building that would take me away from her, and would make me do math facts while I waited for time to pass. A lot of time has passed since then, but I still think about how simple life was back then. School now consists of waking up at 5:30 in the morning and walking into the cold rooms by 7:46. Not only has the idea of school changed in my mind but I have as a person as well. I no longer have a pile of homework that I have to climb or a feeling of unwillingness to go on with my high school career, and that is due to that same feeling of safety my mother concedes that hasn’t changed.
My mother has taught me many things that have affected me astronomically throughout my life. One of which being resilience, leading me to where I am today. Not only has she taught me how to recover and stay strong during difficult times in my life, but she has also proven to me that it is possible. Without my resilience and ability to recover, I would be stuck in a town far away, failing all of my classes, and still with her. I say this because one of the most important things she has taught me is how to be happy while being independent. I do not currently live with my mother, yet she has still given me the strength, motivation, knowledge, and overall ability to live without her. That, to me, is how she impacted me in the best way possible. A mother knows that she is a true mother when she has finished her teachings in a way that allows the child to successfully live happily independently. All that she has done has motivated me not only in my education, but in my life.
