Implementing Beauty by Keely - September 2019 Scholarship Essay
If I could make an extracurricular activity for my high school, it would be one where we meet and discuss self-love and respect. We would call it Contagious Confidence. Everyday, I see girls and boys at my school feeling down on themselves because they truly believe they are ugly. I am always astonished when I hear my beautiful classmates say these things. It breaks my heart to know that my peers feel this way about themselves.
We would schedule a meeting for once a week, but the members would always be open to talk to each other and lift each other up. I strongly believe that a positive attitude is the best characteristic anyone can have. At the meetings, we would discuss how to find something positives about ourselves everyday when we get up and look in the mirror. It doesn't have to be "my hair looks great today." It can be "I have such a caring heart."
Many teenagers struggle to find confidence in everything they do. As a senior, I have experienced my confidence levels fluctuate throughout the years, but now they are at an all-time high. I would love to offer advice to the younger students on how to build up their self-assurance.
My city has 4 high schools. They are all filled with wonderful, caring, selfless people. Everyone in this world is full of beauty, in one way or another. My heart is so heavy with the thought of people not loving themselves, especially those in my city. Self-love can be taught to anyone, including our friends from other schools. This would be a great program to help the entire city be more radiant on the inside. After all, confidence is contagious.
