10K for Education by Kaymesha - May 2019 Scholarship Essay
“Education is the key to success” is a phrase I often heard growing up, my mother being a prime example of exactly that. Immigrating to this country without a penny to her name, my mother was able to pursue her education and earn her Nursing degree all while raising her then 3-year-old daughter. She later went on to further her education and become a Nurse Practitioner while simultaneously working, raising her three children, and being the business owner of a healthcare training center. Having the opportunity to watch my mom move forward on the road to success only greater improved my understanding of the importance of education.
Coming from a family of immigrants, I’ve heard firsthand about the struggles that immigrants face when trying to further their education. It is because of their struggles that my mother was inspired to open K&K Healthcare Training Center in my hometown Brockton, Massachusetts. Through K&K she is able to use her love for education to inspire and aid her community to be a successful one. Because of this, I would invest the $10,000 in K&K, allowing them to expand their business.
As an aspiring OBGYN, I know that helping others through your career is crucial in today’s society, therefore, investing in K&K would give a wider group of people the opportunity to do just that. My investment would enable K&K to increase their staff numbers, allowing for a greater availability for class times which would, in turn, allow more people to choose times that best fit their schedules. With much of what is learned in the classroom incorporating the use of many different equipment and supplies that would be seen in an actual medical facility, the investment would help ensure that all of the equipment at hand is the top of the line technology. K&K would be able to provide each student with the technology needed to perform at their very best with the investment. This includes laptops for each student and better TVs for the classroom which may not be available at home. Because of the current building size, K&K has a class size limit of 25. With the investment they could upsize, allowing for greater class sizes, ensuring that more people in the community are given the opportunity to take the class and further their education.
Investing in K&K would mean investing in my community. While I would be given many in the community the opportunity to further their education, because they would be entering the medical field, I would also have a part in giving those in hospitals, nursing homes, and those who need home healthcare, well-trained caretakers. This investment is one that will not only positively impact those who attend K&K, but many in the community.
