Thinking Outside the Box by Kayley - October 2018 Scholarship Essay
Everyday we’re looking for the next best thing. People are always moving forward and want the next best thing. What else can explain the continuous need to upgrade ones IOS on their apple device or the urge to buy the newest iPhone the second it comes out. People want new and exciting and in order to achieve that, we need innovation. That is exactly what thinking outside the box means. It is changing our way of thinking in order to change the usual or expected.
Thinking outside the box means moving forward, however, it isn’t all about the next best thing or what will make people flock in droves. It is about innovative thinking and going against the grain. Thinking outside the box isn’t only all about the newest phone, it is what started movements and changed the world. The entire Civil Rights movement was thinking outside the box. It was going against what people say is right and doing what you know in your heart is right. One of the most revered examples of this is the great Rosa Parks herself. She went against the grain and thought outside the box, doing what she knew was right in order to make a change.
Thinking outside the box can come in many forms, whether it is in technology or during a social movement. No matter the context, it is all about being innovative and trying new things in order to make the world a better place; socially or technically.
