Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps by Kaylena - December 2013 Scholarship Essay
Out of all the organizations and programs that I have participated in, JROTC, (Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps), has impacted me the most. Since I began participating in the JROTC Program, I have improved my leadership and teamwork skills. Learning the importance of being patriotic and an active individual in my community are important.
JROTC has helped me overcome challenges that I have faced and also taught me how to take risks. JROTC offers so many opportunities to cadets. The reason why I joined JROTC is because I wanted to enhance my understanding of the great careers the military has to offer. I see value in the JROTC program's commitment to physical fitness and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. After high school, I plan to enroll in an Air Force ROTC Program at a 4 year university of my choice. One of the key values of the military is staying healthy and physically fit. I realize that staying physically active in JROTC is going to help me with my goals after high school.
While I am in the military, I plan to pursue a degree in Nursing and become a Registered Nurse. Being a Nurse requires a lot of movement and I want to make sure that I am physically fit for that career. I think that JROTC has helped construct a success driven mindset for myself and help me to continue to stay persistent in whatever obstacles I may go through. I want to learn what it means to serve our country and gain insight on the values of the military, the chain of command, and also the execution of military commands.
