Not your Average Academic by Kaylee - March 2021 Scholarship Essay

Almost every college application asks each student about their parent's occupation and educational level. It supposedly provides admission officials more insight into the environment and the overall influence occurring in the student's life. I can proudly say with great honor that my father is my academic role model. To any college admission officer, this would come as a surprise. My father graduated from high school and joined the military. He later went to college and completed a semester but did not receive a degree. However, what's written down on paper, doesn't define his success or the amount of hard work that followed. My father had exceedingly specific goals. He set out to reach a certain level in the military. In order to acquire his desired objectives, he had to gain a fluent knowledge base in many areas. He could not pass each level and move forward without successfully proving his competence. I witnessed my father's unconditional dedication to studying, practicing, and continued perseverance to not only achieve high marks but obtain accommodations for exceeding expectations. My father is currently in third term enlistment in the Army and aspires to have a lifelong military career. His field of passion in the Army is in the Special Forces. Through his hard work and continued dedication, he recently received acknowledgment of his induction as a Green Beret.

In conclusion, my father showed me firsthand how to obtain my goals through hard work and commitment. My goal is to attain a Bachelor's degree from a four-year university. I strive to help the legal system in any way that I can by obtaining a career as a Forensic Scientist. I think that pursuing this specific career will provide me the opportunity to become a leader and excel in this particular field. I am looking forward to following my father's footsteps with his work ethic and confidence; I believe I can reach any goal I aspire.
