Pursuit of Education by Kaylee - December 2020 Scholarship Essay

Ever since I was a little girl I loved animals. I learned every new fact I could, whether it be through picture books, anatomical models, and documentaries. I wanted to care for them, nurse them back to health. This led me to reading old veterinary practice books when I was 12, and receiving surgery tools used in veterinary medicine for my birthday. Despite in recent years my passion for veterinary medicine has faded, my urge to rehabilitate and care for animals has stayed.
My goal for the future is to continue educating myself on how to care for animals the right way, and educate others on it as well. The pet industry is built on animal abuse and incorrect care, and I'm learning more and more about the lies they spread to make more money. The first step to fixing this problem is to learn and educate myself on how I can truly care for them.
To start, I plan to start in community college, taking all my generals and building the chance of better income. During college I can plan my route to working in animal rehabilitation, and foster animals needing special care. I will also be learning animal behavior, an important thing in rehabilitating scared and injured animals. Finally I will put in time finding and researching credible organizations to fund. Many organizations are pushed out of the spotlight by infamous organizations, for example P.E.T.A.
Ever since I was little, I loved to learn about animals, and how to care for them. Not much has changed since I've grown. My resolution for the next year is to pursue that education further, and use it to help others not fall for misinformation
