"Time" Of My Life by Kayla - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
New year’s resolutions. We make them New Year’s Eve in hopes of a better, brighter future for the upcoming year. Some choose to exercise more often, some want to become more organized, the list is infinite. When it comes down to it though, these resolutions (the choice to do or not to do something), are goals, improvements, things we should be doing anyways. Unfortunately, New Year’s resolutions are notoriously known for being short lived.
At this time in my life I’m preparing for my first year of college this upcoming fall. I want to be the best student I can be. Who wouldn’t? To be a good student is to study and make good grades, but to be a great student is to have time management skills and do everything a good student does, and still have time for more. Time management is a great skill to develop, it helps evade cramming and other stressful, unnecessary evils. Not to mention it’s counter-productive to deprive your body of rest, because if you do you can’t give your best performance in and out of the classroom.
A college student’s first and foremost priority is their classes, but college is more than that. It’s meeting new people, finding your passion, trying new things, and with proper time management you can do all those things without hurting your grades or health. One of the ways I plan on improving my time management is making sure I always feel well rested by getting at least seven to eight hours of rest. Making sure my body gets the proper amount of rest contributes to its productivity and focus throughout the day. Not to mention when your body is exhausted your immune system doesn’t stay strong to fight off viruses.
With today’s technology there are endless ways to help manage my time, not to mention it can be fun. From personalized planners to actual classes on time management and organization, the world is literally at my fingertips. I’m very excited to join new clubs and that’s why I’m glad I’m making the choice to become time conscious. I’m ready for college and I don’t want to waste unnecessary time anxious or stressed out. I’m going to be the best possible student, friend, and version of myself as I can because I know with the effort it’s possible, and this is my 2016 New Year’s resolution.
