Leadership skills are not necessary for college success? by Kayla - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
I do not think that Leadership skills are necessary for college success. Leadership, a natural-born character trait, should be developed over time. College would be a great place to start. However, I do believe that a successful college career is an essential component of developing a Great Leader.
A successful college career is the indicator that the College Administrators and their Staff have taken ownership with helping a natural-born Leader recognize his/her potential for success. Contrarily, there have been some students that have received exposure prior to entering college and are able to exhibit Leadership skills before and during their entire educational experience.
Some college students successfully graduate without leadership skills. Why? We are born with many character traits: artistic, intelligence, shyness, talkative, and leadership. Could these traits nullify leadership or enhance them? College builds on what we already possess, and a true leader should become more successful with the tools provided while attending college.
During my years in high school, many of my classmates held leadership offices in clubs, but they did not exhibit good leadership skills. What do I suppose was missing? Maybe they did not have the knowledge of the position, maybe they got the position because they were popular, or just maybe they needed guidance to help them grow into the leadership position.
The reason I believe that the leadership skills are not needed for the college success, because a college education could create a much more well-rounded individual that has the character traits needed to become a successful Leader.
