Just try! by Kayla - March 2019 Scholarship Essay

High school is really what you make of it. You never know what you could better opportunities you could be awaiting if you don't participate! I've always missed big things happening because of what people said. I shouldn't matter if what you're passionate about is "lame" or "overrated," if that's what you like to do, then do it! There's a senior currently at my school who has a full scholarship for playing soccer. The FIRST female athlete at our school to receive a full scholarship. No matter the hardships, or what you go through just stay true to yourself because I promise it will all pay out in the end.
Your freshman year is just as important as your senior year. You have to take every year of school serious, because you don't want anything coming back biting you because you thought, "Oh I have another year left, I can bring my GPA up." Because even a 100 will not jump your GPA to a 4.0. Believe me, I know from personal experience. I understand you want to have fun, but there's a time to play and a time not to. You will soon grow older and realize that when you graduate you will have all the time in the world to have fun.
Also, time management is everything! You never want to turn something in late, because your grade can drop all because you didn't try. If you don't get something on the assignment, ask! There's never a wrong answer. Some teachers are very understanding. I believe that school is the most important part of your life.
Even though school doesn't determine what and who you'll be in life, you should at least try. Surprises come from where you least expect it. Trying never hurt anyone. You will enjoy high school at the end, you will be as relaxed as you were when you first got here.
- Kayla Page, a high school senior.
