Senior Yearbook Quote by Kayla - November 2018 Scholarship Essay
"The only limits in life are the ones you make yourself" Why did I choose this quote and why is it important to me? The reason I chose this quote is because I have a very personal connection to it. I am my biggest critic, I am always standing in the way of myself which is what holds me back. During my first few years of high school, my head was in the wrong place. I was not focused on the right things. I started slacking, I wasn't thinking about the long-term effect which is college. The grades you get in high school determine what schools you get into and what scholarships you can apply for. I stood in the way of myself by having my head in the wrong place. My unintelligent decision to put off school made me have to work 10 times harder now. Yes, I got into my dream college and yes I got a little bit of money because of my mediocre grades but sometimes I just sit and imagine how many opportunities I could have if I would have taken the time to focus on the things that matter the most. Along with limiting myself in school, I limited myself in the sport that I play. I am a four-year varsity volleyball player and a four-year national team volleyball player at my club but I limited my skill set and capabilities. I thought I wasn't good enough to play in college, I thought that everyone was better than me and that I couldn't compete with the other girls my age, I doubted myself. I limited scholarship opportunities for volleyball, I limited the chance that I would never play on a volleyball court ever again, I limited myslef from a sport that I love all because of my self-doubt. In life, the sky is the limit, whatever you dream you can achieve and you are the only person that can get in your way.
