Thinking outside of the box; now we all think that to think outside of the box means to think unlike everyone else. But if everyone is thinking outside of the box, then doesn't that mean that we're thinking just like everyone else?

When you're in school, having just gotten a project to do, most students will choose to do a Powerpoint or poster presentation. It's the basic, easiest thing to do. You slap on some words, some pictures and you're done. Now I would consider that thinking inside the box, wouldn't you? But even with those things that everyone uses, you can still think outside of the box with them. Create a poster that has flaps, pull-out pictures or is covered with pictures and colors. Have a powerpoint with animations on every slide, with videos and other cool special effects. Just because you choose the same thing as everyone else doesn't mean it has to look the same way.

That is what thinking outside the box means to me. It's not about picking something different than others; it's about using your own imagination. It is about showing who you are in what you do. Don't look over at another person's work and try to copy off their style. Show off your own style, because you are the only you there is. So don't go thinking outside of your box into someone else's box, stay in your box. Our boxes are what makes us, us.
