Six Year Old Me by Kayla - June 2017 Scholarship Essay
When I was six years old I could never focus on one thing for very long, except for wanting to become a Veterinarian. I would tell everyone I met that I was going to grow up and to be the best veterinarian in the world! Usually they would laugh because every little girl, from my home-town, wanted to grow up and work with cute little animals. What they didn’t understand was that I wanted to work with BIG animals like cattle, horses, lions, and bears!
The idea of being able to help and save the big scary creatures somehow amazed me. I mostly wanted to help them because there weren’t many people I knew who would. I thought for a long time that I should because a vet for a zoo or a traveling veterinarian. Traveling the world, meeting new people, and not being a stable environment terrified me; so, I decided on being large animal vet instead.
I had everything planned out. I would build my own clinic in my hometown, since we didn’t have one, and travel around the area helping out the ranchers and families. I told this to my mother one day and her eyes lit up! She said that was the best idea she’d ever heard!
