College is a time of discovery and growth. During this time, I will not be under the constant supervision of my parents and will be able to make my own mistakes from time to time. The college experience that I will be most thankful for is living on campus because that will ultimately teach me responsibility and give me a chance to grow on my own as a young adult. While visiting different universities for open house or just simply talking about college with my family, I have often considered commuting. However, by talking this decision over and over again, living on campus will give me a true college experience that I know I will be the most thankful for in the future. By living on campus, I will have a chance to learn responsibility; setting my own alarms, finding my way to class and submitting all of my assignments on time. I have been living with my parents from the time I was born and always had decisions made for me. Therefore, when I get to college, it will be time to let go and give me a chance to discover what I am capable of doing on my own.
I believe college is a time of realization. During college I will grow and learn, see the world with a different perspective and discover different aspects of myself. The only way I will get this chance of self discovery is if I live on campus. College as a whole will be an experience that I will always value, however, if I were to live on campus, that would be the experience that I thankful for the most. As previously mentioned, living on campus will teach me responsibility and prepare me for the adult life. Living on campus will teach me what I am capable of accomplishing on my own and what I can achieve without the help of my parents. Moreover, part of a college experience that I will be most thankful for is living on campus because I will ultimately be independent.
