Studying Choices by Kayci - March 2016 Scholarship Essay
When you go to tour a college you have been accepted to, the people in administration may suggest that you study abroad in one of the years you are enrolled there. Studying abroad is where you can go to a select college in another country for the same rate as the college that you currently go to. There has been a small debate on whether or not the study abroad program should be required.
It is understandable that schools would want its students to go overseas to learn the country’s culture. Yet forcing students to study abroad will not only take the enjoyment out of it, but it will also cause students to be more lackadaisical about the whole process. No student forced into a program that they are uninterested in would actually go out and put effort forth into the program.
Giving students the option to go through the study abroad program is more likely to teach students about making choices in the first place. Students that have previously gone through the program will be able to voice their opinion on the program. This will give students more of an opinionated choice.
People in life are given choices, whether or not you choose to do something it is on you. So why would schools not give students the choice in the matter. That won’t exactly help in their future. People cannot make choices for you.
