The Start To Success by Kaycee - November 2023 Scholarship Essay
I have always grown up with the dream of being successful. My vision of what success would look like for me was constantly changing but one thing didn’t and that factor is that I knew I would be going to college. Up until my Junior year of high school, I had always dreamed of being some sort of surgeon. To be honest, the salary drew me into this occupation. The reason why this all changed is because I went through major health issues starting my Sophomore year and continuing today. For a while, it seemed like I was constantly in and out of the hospital. All it took was a few bad experiences and I decided that being a doctor would not be a success for my future.
The summer of my Senior year came and I started exploring different career options. When going through all my options I landed on some sort of business or marketing job. This is when I realized that I was constantly incorporating this into my everyday life. I would be helping my brother with social media marketing for his business, I would do all the social media for my job at Country Coffee, and I even worked on all the advertisements for my school leadership class. I always loved doing small tasks like this and even started to realize that I was taking classes in school that would coordinate with this like Introduction to Marketing.
I am now enrolled at Arizona State University for their Digital Marketing and Integrated Communications degree. This may not have the same salary as a surgeon but I came to realize that the salary is not going to get me the kind of success I want if I don’t love my job. College is the first step to achieving this success and goal, and while I am a first-generation college student, I have always wanted to go to college.
As a senior in high school now I can not wait for the day that I move into my college dorm. It will for sure be an adjustment living practically on my own but I am so excited to move on to the next chapter and see where my future takes me. When responding to the question, “Why do you want to go to college?”, I will always respond that I believe that is the first step to my success and I know for a fact that I will have that success one day. It is all about completing the steps to get there and this is how I will start my journey.
