Never give up by Katlyn - July 2016 Scholarship Essay
I started playing my first instrument at the ripe age of eleven years old, and I was blessed enough to keep the same amazing teacher all throughout middle and high school. My teacher was Mrs. Baril and she taught me to never give up on music and to keep playing my violin no matter what obstacles I faced. From the frustrating task of learning new music to the hours I spent practicing, Mrs. Baril always encouraged me to keep pressing forward and to keep improving and eventually I would succeed at learning the music and counting the difficult beats.
This is a lesson I have not only applied to my music but to other situations in my daily life. For example, before I graduated high school there were plenty of times when I wanted to skip assignments and just not go to class but I knew deep down that if I wanted to graduate with a 4.0 GPA I could not give up, I had to keep striving to reach my goal. And I did reach my goal, I graduated with a 4.1 GPA, thanks to the lesson Mrs. Baril taught me. I am very blessed to have learned a lesson this valuable as early as I did, and to have thrived so much in my life already as a result of it. I will continue to press on and to remember to never give up.
