Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? by Kathryn - February 2016 Scholarship Essay

The opportunity to meet and talk to someone who was an integral part of history would be an experience like no other, and if given the choice I would pick someone who, long after his passing, has been an integral part of my life and has shaped me into who I am today. Therefore, the person who I would choose to have dinner with is Jesus.

Dining with Jesus would reveal so much about the past, and what really happened 2000 years ago. He could clarify his beliefs and teachings and clear up misconceptions about the Bible. As so much time has passed since the Bible was written and everyone has different interpretations and beliefs about what it means and what to follow in it, and he would be able to explain firsthand what he really believes. Hearing Jesus’ own words about his life would be so inspiring and would encourage me to follow in his footsteps.

I try to live my life the way Jesus would want me to, but like everyone else, I am often uncertain if I am doing the right thing or making the right decision. Being able to talk to Jesus would be like talking to a life counselor or therapist. He could give me the guidance I need to make the right decisions with my life and reassure me that I’m doing the right things. Being able to just talk to Jesus about my life would make me so happy and less stressed and worried.

Above all, Jesus is so nice. There would be great conversation with him at the dinner table, and it wouldn’t be awkward like it might be with other historical figures. I would know that Jesus loves me and wants to be there, and is happy to talk about anything. Jesus is so kind to everyone, and I think it would be a comfortable and enjoyable evening with him. There would also be plenty of food. We could keep eating and talking all night because the food would never run out.

There is so much to be learned from a dinner and conversation with Jesus, and I know I would come out of it feeling refreshed and renewed from his wisdom. I talk to Jesus every day, but the opportunity to hear him talk back and answer my questions would be an incredible experience like no other.
