My 10 Year Plan by Kathleen - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
My plan for the next 10 years is simple but will be difficult to achieve. Starting my junior year in high school, I began to plan my next ten years. When deciding what class I would be taking, I decided that I wanted to take Psychology 101. I did this because I wanted to take AP Psychology the next year. With both in my tool belt, I would be able to get a head start when I got to college.
Why I needed this booster has to do with the plan I have for my career. I need at least a major in psychology, but I will need a Ph.D. I will need to take general psychology classes as well as specified psychology classes; social psychology, cognitive therapy, ethical issues of psychology, and more. I will focus more on developmental and cognitive psychology due to what I want to do with my degree. I will get a minor in criminology since I would like to work with the police departments towards the end of the ten years.
The entire schooling timeline will end up being between six to eight years, and I will possibly end up moving colleges to acquire the Ph.D.; with this Ph.D. I will start simple. Working with other psychiatrists and psychologists all while talking with and becoming a helping hand with the VA and the police department of whatever county I end up in, hopefully in Corvallis, OR or Portland, OR. As I leave the world of college, I will have to test to be able to practice, just as a lawyer or medical doctor would. Therefore interning and working as a therapist assistant will be the first step out of college.
Outside of schooling, I wish to continue playing volleyball. This includes joining a recreational volleyball team with other adults. I am into general fitness so I will either join a gym or acquire light weights and workout equipment which I will store at whatever apartment I rent. Looking for a reasonably priced one and moving into a house when financially stable so I can get a head start and begin a payment plan. Owning a house or property seems smarter than renting an apartment.
At the end of ten years, I hope to be on the way to owning a house, have my Ph.D. in general psychology, and begin working with others in my field. However long it takes to begin I will stay on that road, taking whatever tests and obstacles come my way. As well as having a minor in criminology so that I can work with the police departments, state departments, or attorneys. Aiding in whatever I can and whatever people need.
