If I were to lead a tour for incoming freshmen, I’d tell them to enjoy high school while it lasts. This was the most common piece of advice I was told by the seniors throughout my high school experience. High school is the time to mature and develop as a person before the next step into adulthood: college. There are many opportunities to meet new people, become involved in diverse activities, and just have some fun before the stress of college.
There are many types of people in high school and it’s important to be surrounded by people who are going to be supportive during the hardships of high school. It isn’t always easy, but good friends make it a little more manageable. Sure they may not be “forever” friends, but there’s still potential for friendships for the time being to occur.
High school has a plenitude of extracurriculars such as clubs, athletics, theatre, etc. Becoming involved can help create new bonds with peers and teachers. However, juggling between extracurriculars and homework may not always be the easiest. Many may say, “I can’t wait to graduate,”. But, before they know it, it’s the last semester of their high school career and they still feel like they’re a freshman.
It truly does by very quickly and many deny it. I was one of those people. Looking back I wished that I took more time to enjoy some of the little aspects of high school. Even if classes were difficult on top of the sport I was in, I wish I could do it all over again. Many tend to focus too much on the end result and forget to take time to admire the journey to get there. It would be wise to recognize this prior to senior year like many.
