Passion by Kathleen - January 2018 Scholarship Essay
When I was younger we had a little easel that I enjoyed playing with. I would prepare pretend English assignments and math worksheets so that I could practice teaching with my younger siblings. There was only one flaw to my perfect practice, my siblings were barely talking let alone having knowledge of the alphabet or numbers. I would patiently try to impart my knowledge to my squirmy students often bribing them with goldfish to stay and play. I have always wanted to be a teacher. Teaching is a passion of mine, the idea of standing in front of a classroom having the opportunity to inspire and shape our future into powerful people drives me to work hard everyday. Passion is what drives me to go to college.
I have looked forward to attending college and taking classes that will push me to turn my dreams into a reality. For years I have talked about becoming a teacher and on the advent of graduation I feel prepared to take the next steps to becoming the best I can be for my students. I want to attend college so I am well equipped to be an educator who goes above and beyond to make our future generations not only educated to perform intellectually but become well rounded and kind-hearted individuals. My college goal is to go above and beyond the classroom and push myself to absorb and reflect on every piece of information so I can let it flourish when I am in my own classroom.
Passion seemed the most fitting to describe what drives me to pursue a college education. When I think about being a teacher a warm feeling fills my heart and I am filled with joy for the students that will pass in and out of my life. I am counting down the days until I get to write with my own whiteboard, make worksheets, and surprisingly I am ready for late nights of endless nights of grading- I hope. I have planned out lessons in my head and think of ways to thank parents and motivate kids and when I go to sleep at night visions of organizers and file folders dance in my head.
