Changing the World Through Music Education by Katherine - May 2025 Scholarship Essay

Music, the universal language that connects, heals, and empowers. My music education has been one of the most valuable things about my time in school that has allowed me to create a positive impact on the world. With unlimited time and money, I could use music to create a positive impact on the world. I would apply what I have learned about in music classes to make education more inclusive, inspire creativity, and build stronger communities.
To begin, music has taught me many lessons about discipline, self-expression, and cultural appreciation. To create a global access to music education and to help others learn these important lessons I’ve learned I would build many schools in underserved areas that focus on music education. I would fund the school so they could provide high quality instruments, have well trained teachers, and be able to follow criteria that allows the children to be disciplined, be able to self-express, and have a wider cultural appreciation. Additionally, I would ensure that this money would be spent to ensure inclusion within this musical education. I would ensure equal musical education for girls in more conservative areas as well as programs for disabled students. I would ensure that music education would be used to bridge all cultural barriers.
Additionally, music builds confidence and offers a healthy emotional outlet for children. To empower youth through creative expression I would launch global youth music festivals where all students could come together and present their love for music no matter what the level is. These festivals would encourage musical collaboration and thus would allow students to come together and share their cultures. The connection of students world wide would foster empathy and cross-cultural connections. I would partner with schools to encourage the participation of these youth music festivals in hopes to also encourage schools to make music a core subject.
To conclude, if I had access to unlimited money and time, I would use my musical education to inspire change, opportunity, and connection. In the long term, I would like to create a world where every child can have access to music education so they can find their voice through music. In the end, music isn’t just about notes and rhythm - it’s about empowering lives and building harmony world-wide.
