Building My Future! by Katherine - March 2025 Scholarship Essay
The future is bright! My name is Katherine Bonner, and in ten years, I see myself running my own boutique real estate law firm, helping people navigate some of the most exciting and important moments of their lives. I want my firm to be a place where my community knows they can turn for trustworthy and knowledgeable legal services, whether they are buying a home or planning their estate.
Currently I am a senior at Dominion Christian High School. I used Varsity Tutors to prepare for the SAT and ACT. I worked with tutors twice a week to improve my scores so that I could have plenty of options when it comes to selecting a college. I have always been motivated by my future, and I know that my education will play a huge role in getting me there. In college, I plan to major in Business and then go to law school. I have always been strong in math and communication, and I know those skills will help me understand the complexities of property law and connect with my future clients.
Over the past few years, I have gained experience working different jobs, from being an art assistant at a creative studio to working as a suite ambassador at a professional tennis tournament. But what I am most passionate about is real estate. That is why I am already working on getting my real estate license. I want to get a head start and learn as much as I can about the industry.
In law school, I want to intern at a real estate or estate law firm where I can get firsthand experience drafting documents and understanding how real estate transactions work. I know I will want to ask a million questions and dive into challenging projects because that is how I learn best. I am also looking forward to connecting with mentors and other students who share my interests. The legal field can be tough, but I believe it is possible to work hard, stay true to my values, and love what I do.
After law school, I hope to either join the firm where I intern or start my own practice. My dream is to build a law firm that focuses on real estate closings and estate planning, where I can make a real difference in people’s lives. Buying a home or setting up an estate plan are big milestones, and I want to help make those moments as smooth and stress-free as possible for my clients.
What excites me most about my future career is the chance to work directly with people during some of their happiest life moments. Unlike other areas of law that deal with conflict and disputes, real estate law allows me to be part of exciting milestones like helping a family buy their first home or assisting someone in securing their financial future. That is something I find really rewarding.
I know reaching my goals will not be easy, but I am ready for the challenge. I plan to take full advantage of every opportunity such as networking, internships, and real-world experience so that by the time I am running my own law firm, I will be fully prepared. In ten years, I see myself as a confident, successful attorney who loves what she does and makes a positive impact on the people around her. I cannot wait to get started!
