What is The Future? by Katherine - April 2024 Scholarship Essay
Growing up, every little kid wants to do some fun job, whether it be a policeman, astronaut, veterinarian, or a teacher. Most kids give up on this hope very quickly when they realize how scary and dark the future could possibly be. I have always wanted to become a musician and now that college is just a mere year away, I’m starting to be nervous for the future. I don’t know what it’s going to bring me and I’m nervous about what it might not bring for me.
Growing up I’ve always been told that there are certain things I can control, and things that are way out of my control. For the longest time I thought that what could happen with my future is out of my control, but then I shifted my mindset. I now stay with the mindset that my future is within my control. If I stay in control of my academic goals, and remain focused, I can control my future. There’s a dictionary definition of the future. But where’s the fun in that? Why can’t I do things now that will reshape the future into what I want it to be? Turns out I can do that, with dedication. I strongly believe that if I stick to my goals and keep a dedicated mindset, I can transform my future into whatever I want it to be.
So what’s my motivation? The future. If I want to fulfill my childhood dreams, and be content in life, I will always think about my future and what it could be if I stay dedicated to what I want. So when I become a successful musician, I will thank younger me for thinking of what I could be, what I will be, in my future.
