My Senior Yearbook Quote by Katherine - November 2018 Scholarship Essay
“It never too late to be what you might have been.” – George Eliot. I love this quote and I try to think about it as often as I can because it motivates me. Whenever I think I cannot do something or I feel bad that I don’t have certain skills, this quote reminds me that I still can be that person I aspire. I can embody the qualities and skill set I want. It is a great reminder that we are always growing so we are only limited by what we believe we can do, not by our actual ability. I love challenging myself to learn new things and setting high goals. I am a person who persists until I achieve. Though often time consuming and sometimes disheartening, there is no better feeling than reaching that goal and then going further.
I believe I have grown up to be an open-minded, compassionate, understanding woman. I went to my state’s university after high school. I obtained a Bachelors of Science in only three years, while also maintaining a part-time job, an internship, and actively competing for the university’s triathlon team. I have placed in various competitions and hiked many peaks. I have worked in several countries and traveled to many others. I have learned Spanish and Swahili. I have read hundreds of books, some in different languages. And now I am studying to be a social worker so I can advocate for those who need it most. But that will not be that last of me. I will be many things, I will accomplish many things. That is me. Always dreaming, always persevering, always being the person I love.
