Tribute to Mrs. Gail Lovering by Katherine - July 2014 Scholarship Essay
Mrs. Lovering was my fifth and sixth grade teacher. She taught QUEST, which was our gifted program. She was the kind of teacher you go back and visit once you've left.
When I entered her class as a fifth grader, I was shy and insecure. For me, her classroom became a safe place to grow into myself and improve my social, mental, and leadership skills. When I left her class two years later, I was changed for the better. I was smarter, more confident, a better leader, and an improved writer. My previous teacher had not put a lot of emphasis on writing, and so that was my weakest subject. Mrs. Lovering helped me improve and develop my writing skills so that now, in high school, I am one of the best writers in my English class, and I take AP language classes.
The educational path that she helped me get on has helped me succeed in honors classes, AP classes, and school in general. I came to love school, especially my sixth grade year. To this day, I still enjoy school. So here’s to you Mrs. Lovering, a teacher who made and continues to make a difference. Thank you.
