Martin Luther King Jr. was an influential voice during the Civil Rights Movement. He advocated on behalf of the African American population and various other minority groups to attain equal rights. He had a very powerful voice when it came to change in the late 1960s.
As a Social Work major, I find characters such as Martin Luther King Jr. to be extremely inspiring. I hope to have half the impact Dr. King had when it comes to change. I think it is important to look at historical figures such as Martin Luther King Jr. when it comes to influence and change. I also think that everyone can learn from someone like him. That is why if I were provided the opportunity to have dinner with a historical figure of my choosing, I would choose Martin Luther King Jr. I think dinner with him would allow me to gain an insight on his thoughts and methodology toward advocating for change.
What I would hope to acquire from such a dinner would be an invaluable learning lesson for me as a future social worker. The target population I wish to advocate for are the homeless, particularly homeless veterans. I think there is a lot of potential and need for change in this particular area of the population. To me, these individuals have sacrificed so much for our country. I think many disregard or are even unaware of the vast majority of veterans that are homeless and studies show that there continues to be a great increase in this area of our population.
Martin Luther King Jr. did so much for the African American population and his actions had a lasting impact on the population. If I could have dinner with any historical figure, it would be Martin Luther King Jr. because I believe he could provide me with ways to advocate and promote change within the area and population I wish to work with.
