The Key to Success by Katelyn - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
Organization, timeliness, and eliminating distractions are all skills that high school students could improve upon. My New Year’s resolution is to be more organized. Organization is necessary in all aspects of life: especially school. Creating a better system for organization would help me study more efficiently and receive higher grades. Better organization skills will not only help with my student life, but it will help me in my everyday life as well.
Organization is one key to success. As students, we spend a majority of our day in school going from class to class. We are given assignments to complete for each class which can take five minutes to multiple hours. On top of homework, we have sports, extracurricular activities, and jobs. It is a struggle to organize our time and make sure that we accomplish everything in a few short hours until we must get ready for the next day. I know that I need to develop a better plan for organizing my time. With an organizational system that fits my everyday life, I would be less stressed and I would be able to be more attentive to my schoolwork.
As part of my New Year’s Resolution I have come up with a plan to help myself organize my time and my life. I plan to use class time more efficiently and complete as much as I can in my free time during the school day. When I get home, I plan to sit down and work on my homework until it is done. Taking breaks will be necessary if I get assigned multiple hours of assignments. To me part of being organized is staying on top of things and not procrastinating. I will try to work on projects a little each day so I am not stuck trying to get it all done the night before. Studying for tests a few days in advance is also part of my plan to get better grades and I will stick with these habits because I know they will help me succeed. Schoolwork is and always will be the most important thing to me. Work, extracurricular activities, and socializing can all wait until my schoolwork is done and my life is organized.
