Deeper Education by Katelyn - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

The purpose of an education is to prepare and equip people for their futures. An education does this in two ways: it teaches practical knowledge and skills needed for future careers, and it teaches life lessons and habits

Probably the biggest emphasis laid on getting an education is that it teaches skills needed for better, more successful careers. Being educated provides a deeper and more thorough understanding of a certain subject; it provides the practical and factual knowledge needed for specific fields. Education powerfully equips students to be successful in future career, but it does not stop there.

An education not only imparts specific knowledge and skills, but it also teaches life lessons and habits that can be used in every area of a person’s life. For example, in the process of getting an education there will be tests and other deadlines. These not only force people to learn facts, but they also force them to learn how to manage their time more effectively, how to be more disciplined, how to cope with pressure and stress.

An education is so much more than just memorizing facts and formulas and knowing a bunch of stuff; it gives a person an experience in, and teaches them how to deal with the realities of life.
