My Dream Job by Katelyn - February 2019 Scholarship Essay

All my life I have dreamt of making someone's dreams come true by planning their event perfectly. As I enter the real world, I expect to begin by planning smaller events such as weddings and birthday parties. Once I get older and gain more experience, my ultimate dream would be to plan for events like the Met Gala, celebrity birthday bashes, Presidential Inaugurations, The Olympics, and many more big events.
To achieve this extremely large goal of mine, I will attend William Jewell College, majoring in Communications and earning a minor in Spanish. The communications field covers a wide range of jobs and offers many tools in order to help me be successful, making my possibilities endless. Why minor in Spanish you ask? Having a Hispanic background, Spanish speaking has been around me all my life, although I have yet to earn the title, "fluent". When I'm able to speak Spanish fluently, I will be able to work with a more diverse clientele.
While attending college, I plan on meeting with my counselors and teachers to discuss internships and job opportunities that fit my occupation and goals. When I graduate college I want to land feet first and jump into a good job immediately. I wish to work beside experienced event planners and gather all the information possible in order to take what I learn and apply it to the way in which I work.
When it comes to what I will get out of being in this line of work, I can think of many things. Being a girl from Kansas City, Missouri, I love my city, although I have learned that there is beauty in other places throughout the United States and the world. Traveling has always been a dream of mine. If I am able to do my dream job while traveling, I can't think of a better way to achieve personal fulfillment.
