Career Choices by Kate - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

There are a myriad of problems in the world, all stemming from various origins not lacking in importance. These issues wriggle their way into the lives of the vulnerable, those without voices. That is a problem that I am passionate about solving, not a problem itself but the way it enters a life and ravages it.
Problems prey on the vulnerable, people who lack the ability and opportunity to speak about their situations and experiences. This group encompasses a diverse demographic, ranging from 18 year olds dreaming about college all the way to wise grandparents who can only dream about speaking their truths. The differing circumstances that steal the ability to speak range drastically and none should rise above the next in importance.
My dream is to give a voice to this group. I want to aid people in expressing their views and experiences in life. This group has remained silent for far too long do to numerous reasons and I believe that I can be the one who can finally give them a voice. I have the ability to listen to their side of the story, seeing their perspectives, and, hopefully, providing them a way to earn what they deserve.
Through my education, I will gain the skills and knowledge to assist those silenced in getting out their story. I aim to do this, not only in a courtroom, but also in a way that will guarantee systemic change. A system that has silenced far too many, will no longer persist, as I will have the ability to alter it, saving those who have fallen victim and those who have yet too.
Prevalent problems in the world today will not disappear overnight but students like me are ready to do what is necessary to make the beginning steps. As I look around, all I see is the opportunity to make voices heard, motivating me to only do my best in college and my future career in the courtroom.
